We're hiring! Sustainability Research Specialist - Part Time

We’re looking for someone to play a leading part in shaping our 2023 Insights on New Zealand Sustainability Professionals Research. 

This ground-breaking research, established in 2020, is the only of its kind in New Zealand providing insight into the rapidly growing role of the NZ Sustainability Professional. The research is a collaboration between Oxygen Consulting, Sustainable Business Network, Sustainable Business Council and Auckland University of Technology. It presents a significant entry opportunity for someone looking to pursue a career in sustainability as we would be aiming to bring this person into a more permanent position working with our clients beyond the research project. It also gives the person direct exposure to working with our partners, who represent New Zealand’s leading sustainable businesses.

Working with our fantastic partners Sustainable Business Council, Sustainable Business Network and Auckland University of Technology, you’ll gain exposure to a broad range of industry stakeholders.  The role presents a fantastic opportunity for you to shape new insights for the sustainability sector with the research taking a new direction in 2023, focusing on an in-depth look into three distinctive sustainability role types.  This aims to provide more granular and useful information for sustainability professionals seeking a specific career pathway and for organisations seeking to recruit these roles.

This project suits (but not limited to) a student who is in their first or second year of a Masters or post-graduate degree in the areas of Science, Business/Commerce, or Finance/Accounting, with a passion for sustainability.

The scope of the role includes:

  • Analysing the 2023 data set and developing charts, tables and results at an aggregate level and by role typology;

  • Evaluating trends, patterns and connections across the 2020-2023 data sets;

  • Developing key insights and supporting evidence from the comparative data sets;

  • Working in conjunction with the AUT Research Team to compare the Sustainability Professionals wellbeing data with the comparative NZ Professionals data set;

  • Building the draft 2023 Insights on New Zealand Sustainability Professionals report;

  • Ensuring the research analysis and insights report development are conducted with scientific and statistical rigour and in accordance with our Ethics requirements.

The work involved requires the following key skills:

  • Analytics and insights - able to manage large data sets and find the patterns, connections and interlinking ideas or themes. Ability to draw insights from complex data sets;

  • Communication - Able to communicate clearly and simply, and to a wide range of audiences;

  • Organisation - highly organised, able to work to timelines, keep initiatives on track;

  • Relationship building/stakeholder engagement - able to engage with a wide range of stakeholders and accommodate different points of view.
